With Mahler Chamber Orchestra at the Salzburger Mozartwoche 2010

At the Mozartwoche at the end of January I will play a concert I am really looking forward to. As I am used to play in one of europes best chamberorchestras, the Camerata Salzburg, I will play a concert with the Mahler Chamber.

Bläserphilharmonie´s New Years Concert (2010)

Not with the Vienna Philhamonics but with a very special Windorchestra I played at the this years - sold out - New Years Concert in the big Festspielhaus in Salzburg. Besides the traditional Walzes and Polkas we played some nice pieces like "Willhelm Tell Ouverture". On the Euphonium (by the way...)

Mozartrequiem in CH, FL, NL, A (Nov 2009)

This Year I play the famous Mozart Requiem with many different Orchestras.
With the Concerto Stella Matutina in Switzerland an Lichtenstein. A Concert I am really looking forward is with the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg in the Amsterdam Conertgebouw and also at the Dialoge Festival in Salzburg. I will also play it at the hour of the master´s death in the University Church.

Wien Modern (Nov 2009)

On the 14th and 15th of November the OENM will part of the contemporary music festival in Vienna "Wien Modern". In the Berio-Saal in the Konzerthaus the ensemble plays 2 Edgar Varese programs featuring a big percussion and wind ensemble.

Salzburg and Bregenz Festival (July-Aug 2009)

On the 1th of August I had a really nice concert with the Camerata Salzburg at the Salzburg Festival. The Conducter Andris Nelsons is a very young and very talented guy with an outstanding personality. I am sure he will have a great carreer.

On the 7th of August I play with the OENM at the Bregenzer Festspiele. Beside that I will spend some time with my family in my hometown Feldkirch.

Later in August I will play some Concerts with Steven Mead and the Ensemble SoundInnBrass Austria.

Venzuela Review (June 2009)

Spending one week in Venezuela at all seems to be a very nice time. Rhigt. Working with a youthorchestra of the legendary "El Sistema" was absolutely incredible. We teached allmost 100 kids every day for at least 6 hours. Everybody was playing from there heart and really enjoying music. The system really gives the kids an opportunity to "do" something in their life and is a challenge for all of them. We all experienced that strong energy and the will of these kids.

From Venzuela to France (June 09)

This June I will go to Venezuela to see and join the work of the "El Sistema". With my american-european Group ARCHIPELAGO PROJECT I will work with children who got a chance to escape a poor life in the slums of Caracas and joined the System to learn how to play music.
From Caracas my journey will go dircetly to France where I am staying for 4 weeks to play with the Camerata Salzburg in the Aix-en-Provence Festival. I am really looking forward to these two projects and new experiences.

Musikverein (May 09)

For the first time since I am playing in the Camerata Salzburg we went to play Haydns "Hahreszeiten" in the Musikverein. This hall is really amazing and I really enjoyed playing there.

Muziek van Nu - Amsterdam (May 09)

With the ensemble "Windkraft" Tirol I jumped in for a concert in the Amsterdam Muziek Gebouw, which is a brand new music hall in the center of Amsterdam. This was probably the loudest gig I played ever in my life. The works by Scelsci, Staud, etc. needed " fortissiomo possibile" and the 3 drummers prowered this chaos-music. But the audiecne liked it and the trip to Amsterdam was amazing anyway...

Linz 09 - Marschmusik meets African Groove (May 09)

Just came back from Lugano-Swizzerland where I played with the "Camerata Salzburg". Now I am going directly to teach my students for this week and after that the next project is sceduled from the 1st to the 3rd of Mai. We are going to play with the DonauBrass Ensemble representing Austrian music as Polkas and Marches as part of the LINZ 09 Kulturhauptstadt. BUT - not just austrian music - we well meet an African Drum group and will try to find what we have in common - musically. I am really looking forward to this.

Camerata in Athens, Lugano and Salzburg!

Just came back from a 2 Days trip to Athens to play with Camerata in a big Concert hall. What a pitty the weather wasn´t better than in Salzuburg these days...;) After the easter break we will play again with Camerata in Salzburg at the "Begegnungen" before we travel to Lugano/Switzerland.

Price-winning students...

In Febrauary I sent two of my students the the german music-competition "Jugend musiziert". Both of them won 1st prices in the first, lokal round. In the beginning of April they played at the Bavarian wide Competiton and I am very happy they won again prices. Christina Helminger, a 13 year old Tenorhorn student from Leobendorf got a 2nd price and Sebastian Maltan, who just turned 17 years old, from Berchtesgaden won a 3rd price. Congragtulations to you!!!

January´s hilight will be the 2nd try of perfoming Koetsiers "Concerto for 4 Trombones and Orchestra" . With my Trombone quartet Trombonica we will play in Saarbrücken with a local wind orchestra.

Camerata Review (Nov 2008)

Last November was a quite busy month. Again with the Barockensemble "Concerto Stella Matutina" I performed a mass of the salzburg composer "Muffat" for the re-opening of the Musikhochschule Regensburg.
With Camerata we played two times Brahms 1st Symphony, which means for the tromboneplayer to sit and wait 35 minutes on stage and then play the - hopefully - famous charol (3 trombones solo). I am glad it went very well...Later in November we performed an "uptime" version of the Mozart - Requiem with the german Conductor Gerd Albrecht.

Mit Pauken und Trompeten - Concerto Stella Matutina (Oct 2008)

In the beginning of October I joined a very "joung" barock Ensemble. My friend Bernhard Lampert form Fedlkirch formed this group 2 Years ago and it is already brilliant. Lead by the conert-mistress Silvia Schweinberger and the fabulos sackbutt player Herbert Walser we performed very early barock music for trumpets and timpani as well as trombones and strings. Herbert found music of Johann Rittler which was not being performed for hundrets of years.

Jon Sass Review (Sept 2008)

First of all we had big fun and enjoyed playing the Xi-Horns. We did a lot of new tunes written by the trombone player of Phil Yager. Also Jon braught some groovy arrangements. His Tuba playing is really awsome and also his humor made this a really nice experience. I hope we will do that again soon...

XI-Horns, Jon Sass (2008-Sept-19)

Together with some friends of the Jazz Orchester Vorarlberg I will join the fenomenal Tuba player JON SASS for a concert at the Remise Bludenz. Some new compositions will be performed that night, also 1 piece of my own.

lbb, Saalfelden, Güssing (August 2008)

Later in August I joined again the Lungau Bigband for 2 concerts with the UK singer Tony Momrelle. In Saalfelden we opened the annual "Saalfelden Jazz Festival". Big crowed on the Stadtplatz, very nice concert. The next place we played was Güssing in the south of Burgenland. A long journey to get there but big surprise when I came ther and met the the famous actor and "Mr. Trailer" FRANK HOFFMANN, who is the head of the lokal Festival.

Salzburg Festival, Camerata (August 2008)

Back from the US I imediately joined the Camerata Salzburg for 2 Festival concerts with the french conductor Marc Minkowski. The first was a Schubert Program with " Rosamunde, Fürstin von Zypern" and the Ouverture "Die Zauberharfe". In the second Concert we performed Mendelssohns "Ein Sommernachtstraum" with the rezitition of the 2 fenomenal actors Sunnyi Melles and Sven-Eric Bechtolf.

Traverse City USA, ARCHIPELAGO Project (July-August 2008))

A Project I didn´t really know what I had to expect from. On the 20th of July I flew via Chicago to Traverse City in northern Michigan. There I met a bunch of musicians from all over the US, Austria and Germany. In our education program we thaugt in a 2 week masterclass 30 kids how to play and to improvise on the Blues and also how to play a "real" austrian Polka!
The group also performed for the filmmaker MICHAEL MOORE at his "Traverse City Film Festival" and on many "Street Festivals" in the area.
In the end we had a lot of inspired kids who really enjoyed being thaugt by and performing with professional musicians. Click the Archipelago Project Website for more details.

July 2008
First an add to june: The day before the European-Soccer Finals (Viva Espana!!) we had a very nice concert with the Lungau Bigband at the Residenzplatz in Salzburg in front of some thousend people.

July started with a lucky surprise. I visited my Wife in Nürnberg where she played a concert with the "Hubert von Goisern" Band. They tour on a Ship, which hostes the band and has a huge stage from where they play their concerts. Finally their guestmusician Konstantin Wecker invited me to play with his band a few pieces on my trombone. Good experience. Very nice people.

Later on in July I will have 4 Conerts with my Trombone Quartet TROMBONICA. The first show is at the big "30 years Jubelee" of the Lechner Factory in Bischofshofen. On saturday the 12th we play in the brand new "Dorothea Porsche" hall in Lengfelden (Salzburg).

At the end of July I am touring with the "Archipelago Brass Project" through the area of Traverse City in the United States. A freeky bunch of americans and austrian brass players. I tell you more later...

June 2008
With the Orchestra of the Univ. Mozarteum I will play 3 times Mozarts "Zauberflöte". Later in June I will come back again at the University to play with the Bläserphilharmonie a nice Bernstein program.

May 2008
In the middle of may there are 2 nice Camerata Concerts: Beethovens "Pastorale" and Schumanns Symphony Nr. 1. My first trumpet concert I play with the Trumpet Consort of Innsbruck at the Melker Barocktage. At least I have to play only one note all the time but though it can be a hard job. We will see...

Osaka (April 2008)

Back from Japan...eine wirklich interessante Erfahrung. Blühende Kischbäume, eine 8 Millionen Stadt, ich in einem Japaner-Orchester, Sushi und Miso Suppe, ein voller Konzertsaal - was will man mehr.
Im April stehen 2 größere Projekte an. Mit der Lungau Bigband spielen wir zusammen mit dem Mozarteumorchester ein Konzert in der Salzburg Arena. Der Titel "Classic meets Jazz" klingt jedenfalls vielversprechend.
Mit dem ÖENM sind wir ende April in München bei der Biennale verteten.

ÖENM / LBB / Camerata / Japan
Beim ASPEKTE Festival anfang März werde ich mit dem ÖENM bei einem Konert mitwirken.
Bis zum Palmsonntag toure ich mit der Lungau Bigand durch die Lande. EIn interessantes Swing Programm, mit den Swing Sisters steht am Programm.
In der Karwoche bin ich dann mit Camerata in der Schweiz unterwegs, wo ich (wiedereinmal) das Mozart-Requiem spielen werde. U.a. stehen auch die 2. Symphonie von Schumann, sowie Zauberflöten-Ouvertüre auf dem Programm.
Ende März fliege ich dann nach Osaka, Japan um ein weiteres Mozart- Requiem mit einem japanischen Orchester zu spielen.

Camerata / Mozarteum Orchester
Nach dem Ende der Faschingssaison, wo ich mit meiner Band Tuneup auf einigen Bällen unterwegs war, steht der Februar ganz im Zeichen des Orchesters. Nämlich des Mozarteum Orchesters, mit dem ich am 21.2. Schmid´s 2. Symphonie und Strauss´ 4 letzte Lieder spielen werde. Ausserdem gibt es mit der Camerata 2 Konzerte mit Schubert´s Unvollendeter (u.a.)

Eine wahre Mozart-Requiem- Rally absolviere ich zur Zeit mit verschiedenen Ensembles. Zwischen München und Wien habe ich seit anfang November bei nicht weniger als 8 Requiem Aufführungen mitgewirkt. Fast genau so oft durfte ich auch das "Tuba Mirum" spielen. Ein Höhepunkt war am 2. Dezember, als ich kurzfristig beim Mozarteum Orchester eingesprungen bin und im großen Saal es Mozarteums spielen durfte.

Zu Silvester bin ich zuerst mit der Salzburger Konzertgesellschaft im Congress zu hören, bevor ich mit meiner "Tanzband" Tuneup die Ballsaison eröffne und mir die Nächte auf zahlreichen Bällen zwischen Leogang und Schärding um die Ohren schlage.

Im Januar gibt es dann auch 2 Konzerte bei der Internationalen Mozartwoche mit der Camerata Salzburg.

ÖENM (31.7.2007)
Mit dem österreichischen Ensemble für neue Musik bin ich im September auf Italien Tournee in Bologna, Mailand und Turin.

Nach dem bereits im August mein Freund und Posaunenkollege Alex seine Veronika geehelicht hat, traut sich im September meine "kleine" Schwester Sara diesen Schritt zu wagen. Aus mittlerweile einjähriger Eheerfahrung kann ich nur sagen, dass es ein wunderbarer Schritt ist und ein unvergessliches Erlebnis.

Tiroler Festpiele Erl (31.7.2007)
Im Moment habe ich greade 3 Runden im "Ring" hinter mir. Genauer gesagt habe ich bei Wagners Ring jeweils 3 mal Rheingold, Walkyre, Siegfried und Götterdämmerung auf der Basstrompete gespielt. Das ganze fand bei den Tiroler Festpielen Erl statt. Nach diesem neuerlichen Marathon bin ich froh sagen zu können "ich lebe noch"! Aber, nichts desto trotz war es die Sache Wert.

Camerata Salzburg (31.7.2007)
Im August stehen 2 Konzerte mit der Camerata Salzburg bei den Salzburger Festspielen an. Weiters bin ich wieder mit der Basstrompete im Einsatz. Und zwar bei "Windkraft" einem Tiroler Ensemble für neue Musik. Da werden wir in Gröden (Südtirol) u.a. Mussorgskys "Bilder ausstellen".

Mit der CAMERATA SALZBURG toure ich im November nach Luxemburg und nach Rom. In Luxemburg werden wir Mozart´s Zauberflöte zum Besten geben werden und in Rom stehen u.a. Mozart´ c-moll Messe, sowie das Requiem auf dem Programm.

JUST MARRIED
Zur Zeit genieße ich gerade das verheiratet sein in den ersten, vollen Zügen. Ja richtig, wir haben am 23. September geheiratet. Der anschließende Urlaub in Irland war ausgesprochen erholsam.

JAZZORCHESTER VORARLBERG
Trotzdem haben sich auch musikalisch interessante Dinge im September zugetragen. Am 15.9. feierten wir die Feuertaufe des frisch gebackenen "Jazzorchester Vorarlberg" (JOV) im ausverkauften Spielboden in Dornbirn. Die Stücke Peter Herberts (V) und v.a. des im Ländle lebenden Pianisten Peter Madsen (USA) fanden großen Anklang lassen auf weitere Projekte des neuen Orchesters hoffen.

TROMBONICA
Ende November starten wir eine Intensiv-Woche, in der wir endlich unsere CD fertig aufnehmen, und 2 Konzert geben werden.

Im Juli bin ich dieses Jahr mehrmals mit Barockorchester "LA BANDA" beim Festival "Musiksommer zwischen Inn und Salzach" zu hören. Weiters werde ich mit meinem Posaunenquartett Trombonica ins Studio gehen und unsere erste "richtige" CD produzieren. Auch mit SoundInnBrass stehen Konzerte u.a. bei der MidEurope auf dem Programm.

Camerata, LBB, Öenm

Im Mai findet die äußerst erfolgreich verlaufene Tour der Lungau Bigband mit Tony ihr Fortsetzung. Für meine Vorarlberger Freunde erweist sich der 24.5. als gute Gelegenheit die Lbb mal in der Nähe, nämlich in Imst zu erleben. Weiters darf ich wiedermal mit der Camerata Academica und dem wunderbaren Geiger und Dirigenten Leonidas Kavakos im Mozarteum konzertieren. Ebenfalls ein interessantes "Dialoge" - Konzert spiele ich mit dem ÖENM.

Lungau Bigband feat. Tony Momrelle

Die Tour Lungau Bigband startet im März, bei welcher wir wiedermal den Londoner Sänger Tony Momrelle (u.a. Incognito) begleiten. Es erwartet uns ein grooviges, souliges und natürlich funkiges Programm, von alten Klassikern bis zu neuen Kompositionen.

"Max und Moriz" Schulkonzerte mit Trombonica

Im Februar geben wir eine Reihe von Schulkonzerten, in denen wir uns der von Jan Koetsier vertonten Geschichte von "Max und Moriz" widmen. Zusammen mit Mag. Volker Toth, der die wohl bekannten Streiche liest und dabei im Hintergrund die Illustrationen von Wilhelm Busch an die Wand projeziert, versuchen wir unser Publikum zu begeistern. Bisher wurde unser Stück in der Sonderschule Taxham, und in Bayrisch-Gmain begeistert von den zahlreichen Kindern aufgenommen. Weitere Auftritte folgen in der Sonderschule Hallein und im Musischen Gymnasium in Salzburg.
